Survival of the Finest represents a way of working with and not against each other, using each others skill-set and sharing our knowledge to learn and evolve. ‘Why hide when you can show off?’

The creative process of designers in the fashion industry is often hectic and unstructured, therefore it’s held back by the fashion industry’s extremely fast production turnaround. By presenting the designs as interim results rather than final products, the show begged the questions: What is the true cost of creativity? Just how important is a finished garment in the fashion industry? How can we explore alternative design methods?

The lookbook showed the unfinished garments alongside their 3D sketches in a shoot that combined still and moving imagery - proposing a future in which traditional (physical) and new (virtual) design methods can possibly work together.

Everything in the world is adapting to digitization, and so does fashion. By sending out 3D garment sketches to several production factories, we questioned whether the industry is up to speed with digital developments, as they can lead to shorter lead times in garment production and also offer a more sustainable way of working.
Inspired by Bandersnatch*, we created an interactive film that allowed the exhibition visitors to pick - through an iPad - between a series of choices as they went along, giving them insights on how the digital communication between the brand and the different factories unfolded.

Can we change the systems within the fashion industry through new design approaches? The exhibition showed how designing with new systems can tackle the sustainability issue of fashion on various levels. The experiments included topics like mental wellbeing, biodegradibility, recycling, natural dyeing and the afterlife of second hand garments.
